The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen (June 4, 2013 from Viking Juvenile).  I haven’t read ALL of Sarah Dessen’s books, but I’ve read a few, and I’ve enjoyed them. This one sounds typically emotional: it’s about a girl who is going off to college and is spending her last summer at home, where she has to figure out lots of stuff, including a BOY.

Senshi: Katana #2 by Cole Gibsen (March 8, 2013 from Flux).  I read and enjoyed the first book in this series, KATANA, about a girl who finds out that she is the reincarnation of a samurai warrior. It was pretty good, guys, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens to Raleigh/Senshi next when things kind of go south.

The Cadet of Tildor by Alex Lidell.  I already read this one, friends (review coming soon), and honestly, it was REALLY good. A very well-paced fantasy with good world-building and a pretty slow-burning (and I do mean slow) relationship. Good stuff.

Just One Day: Just One Day/Just One Year #1 by Gayle Forman. I just finished this book this morning and it is still basically all I can think about. It was basically perfect, if you like to read about imperfect people and things. Which I do. Because that’s real life, y’all. This books was outstanding.

Whew! It’s been almost three weeks since I did one of these posts, guys! The holidays were the perfect time for me to take a mini-break, though. Lots of things to do! Also, lots of great books to tell you about (although I didn’t get any for Christmas *sad face*)! My NetGalley resolution is already being tested. Or broken, depending on how you look at these kinds of things. Either way, NetGalley was good to me this holiday, friends.

The Loop by Shandy Lawson (April 30, 2013 from Hyperion).  This book sounds pretty trippy and intense and awesome. It kind of reminds me a lot of Lauren Oliver’s BEFORE I FALL: these two kids relive the same two days over and over again, where they fall in love and are murdered at the end of a road trip. They spend this book trying to figure out a way to break the cycle and LIVE!

The Runaway King: The Ascendence Trilogy #2 by Jennifer A. Nielsen (March 1, 2013 from Scholastic).  Ok. So I haven’t actually read the first book in this series yet, but it’s on my docket before the end of this month. I can’t resist the pull of solid-sounding MG/YA fantasy, friends. I can’t.

Revenge of the Girl With the Great Personality by Elizabeth Eulberg (March 1, 2013 from Point).  This book sounds all kinds of awesome. First, I love that it’s about a girl who is popular, but not a bitch. She’s likeable and friendly and normal-sounding. OF COURSE, none of the boys notice her, though, so she’s always on the outside looking in with that biz. Lexi apparently sets about to change all of this by getting involved in one of her younger sister’s beauty pageants. (Lexi’s got some family issues, too, involving these pageants and her mother.) Looking forward to reading this one.

Also Known As by Robin Benway (February 26, 2013 from Bloomsbury). Don’t tease me with spies, y’all. DON’T EVEN. This one, about a young girl in a family of spies who needs to go on a solo mission in a private school, sounds great. DEEP COVER, friends. There’s nothing like it.

Dance of Shadows: Dance of Shadows #1 by Yelena Black (February 12, 2013 from Bloomsbury). A 2013 debut, HOLLA! But seriously, I am totally intrigued by this ballet-mystery-paranormal. The main character goes to a ballet academy, this site of her sister’s disappearance some time before, and there’s all kinds of mysterious hints to “fire” and “burning” and “power” in the Goodreads synopsis. My interest is totally piqued.

School Spirits: School Spirits #1 by Rachel Hawkins (May 14, 2013 from Disney-Hyperion). You KNOW I’m not going to skip this second Hex Hall series from Rachel Hawkins, yo. This one is about Izzy Brannick, one of the secondary characters in the later Hex Hall books.

Kat, Incorrigible: The Unladylike Adventures of Kat Stephenson #1 by Stephanie Burgis. Guys, I have been wanting to read this awesome-sounding MG magic historical fiction for AGES. That awesome secret santa I mentioned just before HOOKED ME UP, and I can’t wait to read this one.

I can’t think of  a book that’s been getting more buzz on the tweets and the posts and EVERYWHERE lately. It sounds really angsty and emotional and heavy, and I’m in the mood for those kind of contemps around now. I was so excited to get this one–thanks Atria!

Dr. Frankenstein’s Daughters by Suzanne Weyn (January 1, 2013 from Scholastic).  I’m totally intrigued by this one, friends. It’s a historical fiction/mystery about these two secret daughters of Dr. Frankenstein who take up their father’s legacy and get caught up in this love triangle (tiny ugh…sisters competing for a guy = discomfiting, but whatever). There’s a serial killer and experiments and a really awesome-sounding gothic vibe about it.

The Fire Horse Girl by Kay Honeyman (January 1, 2013 from Scholastic). Whooo Hooo! A 2013 debut! Even cooler, this is a 2013 debut about both a culture and a time period that are lacking in YA: Asian immigrants to the US in the early 20th century. I know. Sounds a little specific. But still: This story about a Chinese girl born under a bad sign who has to deal with some tough things, not the least of which involve a boy she falls in love with. Sounds GOOD.

Kissing Under the Mistletoe: A St. Helena Vineyard Novel Series #1 by Marina Adair. I saw this cutie-pie contemporary ADULT romance all over twitter a little while ago, thanks to April and Allison. Plus, it was super cheap for my kindle and Christmasy. I’m going to read this one hopefully BEFORE the holiday because it sounds like a good, happy-making book. GOOD TIMES.

An Echo in the Bone: Outlander #7 by Diana Gabaldon, narrated by Davina Porter.  Actually already listening to this one. It’s so good. Not the best Outlander book based on what I’ve listened to so far, but it’s OUTLANDER. I’m totally invested. And the narrator, Davina Porter, is AMAZING. I’m going to be listening to LOTS more of her books.

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, narrated by Claire Danes. Sadly, I’ve never read this book, even though my mom has been pushing it on me for years. There’s too many books, guys!! So when I saw that Claire Danes read the audiobook, and that it was one of Audible’s best audiobooks of the year, I knew I had to give it a go.

Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt (March 26, 2013 from Bloomsbury). To this day, Lindsey Leavitt’s debut, SEAN GRISWOLD’S HEAD remains one of the most wonderfully surprising YA books I’ve ever read. (BOOM!) And from the looks of it, GOING VINTAGE is going to be more of the same, except this time I won’t be surprised by how awesome it surely is: it’s the story of a girl who swears off boys when her BF is caught cheating. Except not only does she swear off boys, she basically swears off 21st century gadgets and stuff, too. SOUNDS SUPER FUN.

Me, Him, Them and It by Caela Carter (February 5, 2013 from Bloomsbury). This one is a 2013 debut, friends, and it sounds really thought-provoking and tug-at-my-heartstrings-ish. It’s about a young girl who has a crappy life at home and so she goes around acting wild and winds up getting pregnant. Her parents suck, the baby daddy ditches her, and so she’s living with other relatives. Sounds like a good, deep story about family and love and all that gushy stuff that I ADORE.

So that’s all I got this week, friends. But before I close up, I wanted to give a shout out to this AWESOME auction going on right now on Ebay, YA for NJ. Maybe you’ve heard, maybe not, but I live in New Jersey. Have lived here my whole life, and so have my parents, and generations of my fam before them, too. There are parts of Jersey that were special for so many people, and important to me and my life that, up until Hurricane (excuse me, “Superstorm”) Sandy, had been the same for decades or more but are now totally gone. And even though this storm came through a month ago, there are people who are still not able to live in their own homes, and people who still don’t have heat, and power lines and trees down everywhere. It’s a big bummer, especially going into the holiday season.

This rocking auction is putting up some EXCELLENT items for bid from so many awesome YA authors, and all of the proceeds go to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. It’s a good cause, friends. Plus. Some of this swag? LEGIT. You should check it out.

Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick (February 5, 2013 from Roaring Brook Press). I’ve been really looking forward to reading this book from Marcus Sedgwick, despite never having read any of his work so far. Because this one sounds so freaking intriguing: it’s basically the story of these two souls, I guess, who keep finding eachother in different bodies/incarnations throughout time. There’s paranormal biz, romance, family issues and pretty much who knows what else. At least I think MIDWINTERBLOOD is about these things. I don’t know if I could describe it any differently. Guys, Harper has some pretty awesome e-books on sale over Amazon way right now, and this one is just an example (more to follow, though). For $2.99, I snagged this book about some science experiment gone haywire, disappearing people, time travel, etc. It sounds pretty great, and at that cheapo price? I’ll definitely give it a whirl.

Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer. (Amazon | Goodreads)

I love stories like this one, friends, about girls (or anyone, for that matter) coming out of their shells. It always leads to several things: One, some heartwarming moments; two, AWKWARDNESS; three, great new experiences and realizations that there are benefits to putting yourself out there. This one sounds cute and fun.

Mariana by Susanna Kearsley. (Amazon | Goodreads)

Friends, Susanna Kearsley is one of those authors whom I’ve read only once, but I really enjoyed (THE WINTER SEA) and have always wanted to read more. As a fan of the Outlander books, I’m not surprised that I’m drawn to these books that combine time travel and historical fiction. MARIANA was the kindle daily deal yesterday, so I snapped it up.

Ok. Another book that I’m taking a flyer on because, one, it was cheap for my kindle ($3.99), and two, because it sounds INSANELY AWESOME. It’s basically about a girl whose bestie kills herself, and so said girl–Lela–decides that she’s going to go to the gates of hell to save her friend’s soul and encounters some nasty creatures who sound like Hell cops. Friends. This book takes place in Hell. PSH. I’m in.
